COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –

The Mountain West Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted by San Diego State in 2010 and 2011. San Diego State was awarded the hosting rights by the Baseball Championship Selection Committee and Joint Council following a bid process.

The 2010 and 2011 MWC Baseball Championship will be played at Tony Gwynn Stadium on the campus of San Diego State University. SDSU last hosted the MWC Baseball Championship in 2001. Tony Gwynn Stadium became the home of the San Diego State baseball program during the 1997 season. The facility has been hailed as one of the top collegiate baseball stadiums in the country and the fourth-best park in the western United States. The structure is named in honor of current Aztec head coach Tony Gwynn. Gwynn, a former player at SDSU, was inducted to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 after a 20-year career with the San Diego Padres. Seating capacity of the stadium is 3,000.

The 2010 MWC Baseball Championship will take place May 25-29 (Tuesday-Saturday). The tournament will be a six-team double-elimination format with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye.
